Vivid Artist Has Weekly Show In Charlestons Downtown Marion Square

RELEASE Danita Cole, 843-735-1618

VIVID ARTIST HAS WEEKLY SHOWINGS EVERY SATURDAY IN DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON!

Danita is an unusual fine art painter in that she paints exclusively in encaustic wax and what
a story her pictures tell!

Danita currently (and uniquely) lives on a boat in the Charleston harbor. Back in 2004, she
sold all her belongings and headed her boat for the Bahamas where she and her little family
explored and reveled in their sense of freedom. They spear fished every day and did some
boat work for a fellow cruiser. She sold her artwork around the islands in various shows and
a coffee shop in Marsh Harbour. Danita says “Others said we were crazy…but we did it,
and we learned how to feed ourselves and take care of ourselves using just what we had.
That was priceless.”

6 months later, while heading back to the States to regroup, the boat picked up a huge ball of
fishing twine and netting that wrapped around the prop and bent the shaft. They had been at
sea for 5 days, having left sight of land, and they were out of fresh food with a big storm
coming their way. The boat was broken in such a way that they felt they may not survive
too much pounding from a storm, so they opted to pull into Charleston. Danita still lives out
in the harbor where dolphins will occasionally swim up to them and make their day.

Danita’s art is all about life on the water…actually mostly it’s all about life! She uses a
painting technique called Encaustic Wax Painting. It involves using heated beeswax to
which colored pigments are added. The liquid/paste is then applied to a surface – usually
prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often also used. Her paintings
rightfully pay homage to the ocean which she has gotten to know so well.

Her work will be on display every saturday from 8 am until 2 pm in downtown Charlestons'
Marion Square. For further information, Ms. Cole may be contacted by
