The SPACE Presents First Impressions An Exhibition By Photographer Tom Lindfors

June 15th, 2015 - Star Prairie, WI

January 8 - March 8, 2010

First Impressions, an exhibition of photographic portraits of friends and neighbors accompanied by their words of wisdom opens January 8, 2010 at The SPACE. The opening will be from 7 to 10 p.m. including a gallery talk with photographer Tom Lindfors who will be joined by many of the friends and neighbors he photographed for the exhibit.

Lindfors asked each person nine personal questions. Working collaboratively with each subject, he used their answers to create the context for each portrait. Their own words proved so wise they deserved to be heard, so Lindfors literally combined them with each portrait.

“Their honesty and sincerity really moved me and their dreams inspired me. Read their words. Then step back and listen to their voices as a choir. You begin to get a sense of what holds communities together, faith, respect, trust, service, generosity, and compassion. That they were even willing to participate in my project says everything about where we live.”

Although photographer Tom Lindfors grew up in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, he came to Star Prairie via Chicago where he spent twenty plus years photographing famous folks like Michael Jordan and not so famous folks like the kids at the Off The Street Club on Chicago’s tough west side. His photographs of Native Americans belong to several prominent collections in the US and Europe and have been widely exhibited from North Dakota to Zurich. Five of his portraits are in the permanent archive of the International Polaroid Collection. He is a past president of the Midwest chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers. He loves living in Star Prairie but still doesn’t understand how there can be so many county roads named “C”.

First Impressions closes March 8, 2010.
