Still Photos Of Alaska Turned Into An Animated Short Film

Preston Zeller, in association with his agency, Zellerhaus Digital, have just released a unique short film of Alaska that is comprised entirely of animated still photography. The video, featuring approximately 60 photos from the collection, is being released exclusively online and has its own website where viewers have the chance to win a print from the collection.

After nearly 7 years as a collection of photos, artist Preston Zeller is finally realizing the vision he once had for turning his photo collection from a two week trip in Alaska into an animated video. The road to here has been a long one, as over the years Preston also self-published a coffee table book using the same photos, and has promoted the photos through various outlets. The film though was the ultimate goal.
Titled “Alaska in Perspective,” the short film takes viewers through a variety of terrains, experiences, and transportation methods that all lend to the sense of adventure the film has to offer. Combined with a compelling score, ambient sound FX, and it’s rhythmic pace of editing, the film is sure to keep your attention for it’s 4:33 running time.
On animating the film Preston said it was far from easy. “Part of the hesitancy in taking on this project was knowing how much work it would be. With so many other projects going on, I had to justify the time it would take to produce the film. After a test animation using a couple of the photographs, I knew it was time to make it happen.”
Preston reveals in another entry on the storytelling platform, Medium, that the road to getting the short film completed was full of its fair share of bumps. He decided that, with the 7 year anniversary of the trip coming quick, the short film was either going to happen or it wasn’t.
In addition to the short film, a website by the same name has been created where viewers have the opportunity to win a print from the film/collection.
