St. Louis Area Artist GH Filben Has Two Thriving Art Sites

October 25th, 2014 - Saint Louis, MO

St Louis, Missouri area artist G.H. Filben has two thriving art sites that shows his many creations of abstract paintings and mini-sculptures.

Born in Glen Dale, West Virginia in 1965, G.H. studied art at an early age. He enjoyed charcoal and ink drawings and loved the self abstract expressionism that painting allowed. He also studied piano, trumpet and trombone into his teens. After graduating from John Marshall high school, he joined the United States Army stationed with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York. Honorably discharged in 1987, he met his wife and relocated to Saint Louis, Missouri. They have two adult children. Mr. Filben received a Regents Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from West Virginia University. He has an original 48x60x1 abstract and mixed media on canvas called 'One Green Circle' hanging proudly in Stansbury Hall on the West Virginia University campus. Considered one of the world's greatest living artists, he considers himself a self taught abstract and mixed media artist who works in a wide variety of mediums. His creations are compared to Jackson Pollock, Christopher Wool, Cy Twombly and the German painter Georg Baselitz. His explosive paintings, mixed media art and mini-sculptures using recycled junk and photo's are self representing and unconventional. He likes to use an old 1800's era beer bottle he dug up from a hillside near downtown Saint Louis, Missouri, to create his circles that can be found throughout his many paintings. 'My process for me is emotional. I like to sit in my studio, with soft music playing in the background and stare at the blank canvas. This allows for my deep thoughts and the creation process to spill out of me. It is very therapeutic.
