Painter Paul Wright Debuts New Series

July 14th, 2015 - New Orelans, LA

It’s a conscious series—and conscious in what is a new way for me. The theme is ‘BirdsEye’, yet the subject matter is not ‘BirdsEye’ at all. In a peculiar way, even the first bird painting I ever did was a reference to life. Putting art aside for a moment, according to one dictionary, the word perspective originally comes from the Latin words per meaning "through" and specere which means "to look." These are combined to mean "to look through" or "to look at." However, the meaning of a word can change and usually even splits into several meanings over time.

“It’s hard to see when you move so fast, so when I left to study in New York to study at Parsons The New School for design and I joined the audience. I didn’t show my work , I observed,” And what I saw inspired me, and now I’m ready to step forward and share.

The sequential installation “Bird’s Eye,” displays pieces in a creative blueprint of found objects, such as bikes, birdhouses, and shutter window panes layered in acrylic, spray paint, and oil paints to establish an interactive 3-D aesthetic. The series displays illustration with visual arts elements, and a string of music to tie it all together. Each piece depicts a sequential storyline of a families challenges from uptown in contrast to a mother of birds protecting her young in nature . My theme is based around the perspective that resemble shotgun homes of Central City New Orleans. My pieces takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. In my work, I deconstruct the New Orleans dream, nature tales, and jazz rhymes that are part of my childhood and rich culture. In the installation I use an industrialized conveyor belts to bring movement to the artwork that captures adversities from natures perspective. My community based project compares and contrast how public meets private space. I worked with New Orleans native Vocalist/ Composer, Amber Matthews to give “Birds Eye” a profound sound for the storytelling experience and give each piece a voice. The live free preview of “Birds Eye” will be opened to my community August (Fri 7-8 Sat) on display at Ya/Ya New Arts Center
