New Artists Galleries In Downtown Las Vegas
September 26th, 2008 - Las Vegas, NV
Scheduled to open to the public in October is the Southern Nevada Center for the Arts. Residing on the second floor of the Neonopolis complex on historic Fremont Street will be the studios and gallery spaces of 44 lucky Las Vegas artists. The project has been modeled after the highly successful Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. This first set of spaces will kick off the project with future quadrants of the Neonopolis building to be developed in the near future. There is already a waiting list for the proposed addition to the Center for the Arts. Also featured on the same floor is the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Art featuring works by well-known artists such as Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder and Joan Miro. It will be open to the public for a nominal entry fee.
In the Center for the Arts, there will be painters, sculptors, photographers, and jewelry makers represented. In fact, you'll probably see Bonnie Kelso, painting at her easel as you come out of the elevator. "I'll be sharing the gallery directly in front of the elevators with popular local ceramicist, Teresa Testa. We'll be open to the public by mid-October. I am honored to be a part of this exciting project. For an emerging artist such as myself, it is an opportunity of a lifetime," says Kelso. "I strongly encourage anyone who is in living in the Las Vegas area or just visiting, to come by and take a look. There's a whole new reason to come down to historic Fremont Street! I'm planning on being there regularly Monday through Friday, from 12 - 6pm. Teresa will be there on Saturdays, from 1 - 9pm. Please see my website for additional information."
