Lenticular Exhibit At Image City Photography Gallery
May 7th, 2008 - Hilton, NY
Peter Sucy will be exhibiting in two spaces at the Image City Photography Gallery (722 University Ave, Rochester, NY). The show will run from June 18 - July 13, 2008 and the opening reception is on Friday June 20 from 5-9 PM.
On the front wall (by window) he will be showing, in public for the first time, several 3D lenticular prints from his "Virtual Visions" series. After more than 5 years of searching, he finally has found a print process and display solution that achieves the impact he desired. The pieces will be back-lit transparencies mounted in displays custom designed by him and utilizing ultra thin LED lighting technology.
In the East Gallery space Peter will also be showing a sampling of pigment prints from several of his other portfolios including his "Photo-Synthesis" and "Petragraphs" series.
"These images started out as photographs (most of them digital) but they have all been digitally re-synthesized using a program called Studio Artist. Studio Artist is like what a music synthesizer does for playing back music only images are played back using any of thousands of "paint patches". The program can take a source image and recreate simulated version of it using pathces that look like pen drawings, chalk, oils, watercolor and thousands more."
"I have a set of patches that I use to produce between 6 - 12 versions of the image. These are layered in Photoshop and then using blending modes and transparency I adjust all the layers until I achieve the look I want. These layered composites are like a musical score but each time I go back to the image I'm likely to create a unique performance and a slightly different version of the image. So the images are always in flux but the prints I'm showing are the latest performances of these images."
Peter says the most accurate term that comes to mind for these images is "graphic interpretations".
Also showing in the gallery: in the main space photographer Mathius Finke, various gallery partners and guest artists on the panels.
