February 8th, 2015 - Mumbai , Ma

Photographer Ashvin Mehta shows 'Celebrating the Timeless' lifetime work at this new photo gallery which will only exhibit 1’x 1’prints. Sixty of them. But art collectors can order larger sizes.

Another first is that with each show, a Limited Edition book with all sixty pictures will be published. Only 60 copies of the book will be printed. Each book will be numbered 01/60 to 60/60. Hence every collector will have a unique, one of a kind, print + book. Exclusive.

The show, starting from 1st February is of the life time work of Ashvin Mehta who was one of India’s most distinguished photographers. In a career of several decades, he had excelled in various genres, including nature photography, destination photography, and the cityscape. His work was collected in a series of books, including, Himalaya: Encounters with Eternity (Thames & Hudson, London), Coasts of India (Thames & Hudson, London), Gifts of Solitude (Mapin, Ahmedabad), Hundred Himalayan Flowers (Mapin, Ahmedabad), Happenings – Journal of Luminious Moments (Micro Inks, Vapi), Intimate Cityscape (Archer, Ahmedabad), Bicycle – a Celebration (Archer, Ahmedabad) and Contemplative Colour (Archer, Ahmedabad). His work had also been shown in the group exhibitions ‘Creative Eye’curated by Raghu Rai; ‘Indian Photography’ curated by Mitter Bedi and ‘Another Way of Seeing’ curated by Circle of 24, The Netherlands. Mehta had also engaged in a number of prestigious collective projects, including A Day in the Life of India (Collins, San Francisco) and The Festivals of India in UK, Russia and Germany. He was commissioned as a destination photographer by Singapore Airlines, The Oberoi Hotels and ITDC. He had photographed the spices of India for The Taj Hotels. Mehta, first exhibited his photographs in 1966, held exhibitions in the Jehangir Art Gallery, the Centre for Photography as an Art Form, and Gallery Chemould, IGNCA and Gardner Centre for the Arts, Brighton, Britain.

Worth a visit. Dinodia 1x1 Photo Gallery, 66–Bajaj Bhawan, Opposite INOX, Nariman Point till 28th February 2015, daily 11 am to 6 pm. Sundays by appointment. Phone 2204 4016. Email – jagdish@dinodia.com

Hurry, because the pricing is such that while the first five limited edition print + book is a steal, the price goes up with the sale of every five sets. Hence, be the first to book your print. There is only one print of each picture, which is a collector’s nightmare. The low price for the initial few sets is because Agarwal believes in low price – high volume and wants to encourage new collectors to start displaying art in their interiors.

Welcome to the new Dinodia 1x1 Photo Gallery.
