Devon Wilke Photograph Serenity Surrounds Selected For 2014 Peace Project

September 20th, 2014 - Playa Del Rey, CA

Photographer Lorraine Devon Wilke's award-winning photograph, Serenity Surrounds, is one of 120 images selected out of hundreds of international submissions to be part of a traveling exhibit for The Peace Project, an annual event conceived and produced by Lisa Shultz of TheWhole9. The mission statement of The Peace Project, which launches its third annual festival "Affair of the Arts" on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, in Culver City, CA, is described as follows:

"Amidst all the chaos, all the war, all the shootings, it’s important to find hope and believe that the world can be different. We're proud that since The Whole 9 launched The Peace Project four years ago, thousands of artists worldwide have helped to power our work. Together we have accomplished much including:

• Educated dozens of children in Sierra Leone, Africa.

• Distributed 10,000 pairs of crutches to amputees, war victims, polio survivors and mothers and children in Sierra Leone on World Peace Day, 2011.

• Designed a Peace Museum in Sierra Leone in conjunction with the United Nations.

• Created and produced Peace Tips, specially designed crutch tips that last one year, extend the life of crutches and greatly improve mobility for users.

• And currently, we’re building 40 houses and a community center in the Philippines for victims of Typhoon Haiyan. A total of 200 are planned.

"This work has been powered by our yearly international Call for Artists which also results in a traveling exhibition. With gratitude, our esteemed panel of judges have selected the 120 entries shown below to be featured in our traveling exhibit -- all submissions will be featured in this mosaic. This exhibit will premiere at The Whole 9's Affair of the Arts in Culver City on World Peace Weekend, September 20 & September 21. We invite you to join us there."

A portion of the proceeds of the event will be used to fund the construction of 200 homes for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, plus many artists will be donating a percentage of their sales to their charity of choice.
