Cathy Carey Art Studio and Garden Tour

Escondido, CA - Reception April 25 & 26 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day - Every spring on the last weekend of April, Escondido artist Cathy Carey produces this event as a benefit for the San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) and Project Wildlife. For a suggested $10 donation, which goes directly to the fine folks greeting you at the door from SDHS, you are treated to a tour of Cathy Carey’s studio and garden. Sample tasty refreshments and flavorful beverages while you explore the colorful paintings and gardens. As part of her continued support of the San Diego Humane Society, Cathy will match $5 for every donation.

On display will be Carey’s current series of native animals like owls, quail, coyotes and fox, many of which she has seen on her one acre property on a high hill overlooking Lake Hodges. “I love working with the animals I see in the area, we are all part of the interdependent pattern of our shared coexistence.” During the self guided tour - enjoy the beautiful drought tolerant succulent garden, with many imaginative groupings of plants, wine bottles, and sculptures by other local artists. Her glass house studio is the center of the garden space and makes a delightful place for a shady interlude. A big draw to this show is the hand made Painted Jewelry Collection she makes, based on her paintings. Using a material she can print with images of her paintings, she then fires and shapes the pieces into one of a kind earrings, necklaces and bracelets. These creations are sold exclusively at the Rancho Bernardo Inn gift shop and La Playa gallery in La Jolla during the year. She will also be featuring paintings of the coastal area, from Laguna Beach to Swami’s in Encinitas and native gardens.

The Contemporary Expressive Colorist style of Cathy Carey is a blend of impressionist brush strokes, vivid expressive color and symbolic images that impart a sense of emotion and mood. Cathy Carey’s oil paintings are more than the reality of description and instead create images that feel joyous and exhilarating. “I want to create movement in my compositions so

I combine colors and shapes to feel like the pulse between music and dancers”. Her paintings present colorful slices of life in coastal and inland North County. “I paint scenes of places that I love. The California coast and inland North County is one of the most beautiful places in the world.”

Cathy Carey is an award winning Escondido artist, who was born in Washington, DC. and educated at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. She received a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Cathy has won numerous awards and her paintings are in many private collections including Larry Page of Google and J. Craig Venter of the Venter Institute in La Jolla.
