Artist Tiffany Chaney Debuts New Sacred Dea Goddess Nymph And Woman Series

February 19th, 2015 - Winston-Salem, NC

"Sacred Dea: Goddess, Nymph & Woman" is a new series by artist Tiffany Chaney, exploring the sacred feminine through the lens of myth, of goddesses, and others in lore, as well as their herbal correspondences. "Sacred Dea” will run from February 13, 2015 – February 28, 2015 with an opening reception Friday, February 13th, from 5:00-10:00 p.m. at Green Door Wheel Works, a custom bicycle shop and community space in downtown High Point, North Carolina.

The focus of this small collection of ten mixed media works on wood panel is the evolution of the female figure as goddess and woman throughout time. "The female figure is sensual, the creatrix and nexus of life, evidence of order and chaos in us all. She is often many things at once," says Chaney. "Often the female deity is associated with the ability to transform or shape shift, as women have had to do for centuries in their many roles in life." The works focus more on the vitality and power in this ability, rather than its perceived disempowerment–how the nymph was transformed into a tree to avoid rape or dishonor, or how a goddess is simply the consort of anima of the Godhead. There is always more to the myth. The myths we tell ourselves are living things, according to Chaney.

"Sacred Dea” will run from February 13, 2015 – February 28, 2015 at Green Door Wheel Works in downtown High Point, North Carolina, located at 2205 W English Rd. For additional information please contact Green Door Wheel Works at (336) 886-5430.
