Artist Of The Month For St. Marys Olde Towne Gallery

August 28th, 2014 - St. Simons Island, GA

St. Simons resident Alexandra Nicole Newton has a colorful perspective of marine life. She credits growing up on St. Simons Island and having earned a degree in Wildlife Biology and Fisheries Science as major influences on her artistic style. She says "I enjoy working with a wide range of techniques, and I love to express myself using several mediums including watercolors, oils, and acrylics. Regardless, all my work is inspired by the color and beauty found in nature--nature has always been the focal point of my art. I grew up surrounded by the best kind of inspiration: white sand beaches, winding tidal creeks, and vibrant marshes. This environment also led me to develop a deep appreciation for wildlife and all our coastal flora and fauna." Now she hopes to pursue her art and through it instill an appreciation for nature and wildlife in others. Through her art Newton strives to give others a passion for preserving nature and wants to promote the conservation of coastal ecosystems and marine life.

Newton's work will be on display through the month of May along with that of over 20 other artists at Olde Towne Gallery. Located next to Cedar Oak Cafe at 304 Osborne St. it is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
