Rory McDonald Feature In Photography Monthly Magazine

September 28th, 2014

Kendal, Cu - I was very happy when a popular photography magazine in the UK called "Photography Monthly" asked if they could do a feature on me in their magazine.

I had to provide them with a portfolio of images and had to answer some very searching questions that made me really think about my photography.

Here is page 2 of the article. Page 1 was just a full page photograph with no text, so I haven't included it here.

Experts Overrule Crowd Vote In N-Photo Photocrowd Competition

Experts Overrule Crowd Vote In N-Photo Photocrowd Competition

September 28th, 2014

Kendal, Cu - There is a fun new site around called Photocrowd that runs regular competitions, and it is fun watching how the crowd vote for each image in real time.

I recently entered their Gardens competition. I decided to enter a photo which was different to the normal garden theme - it had more of a still life feel to it, and I wasn't sure how it would be received.

On completion of the competition, the crowd had voted it into 23rd place, but the editors of N-Photo Magazine voted it as the winner. It was interesting reading the judges' critique of it.

What I found very interesting is how the crowd will always go for the very cute or the chocolate box image and will sometimes ignore images that try to be different and challenging. You can watch the images as they are added to the competitions and you can almost guess which ones the crowds will go for.

Ancient Ireland Photography Series

Ancient Ireland Photography Series

September 28th, 2014

Belfast, NI - Hi, I'm George Pennock, a photographer from Belfast, Northern Ireland. I love wedding and portrait photography and over recent months I've been focusing on landscapes in my free time. It's a good excuse to get out and explore the marvellous Irish countryside. We are blessed with some really beautiful natural scenery here and when the weather is kind can make for some great photography. I'm currently working on the theme of Ancient Ireland. We have some wonderful sites here, from ancient ruins to magical stone circles and my passion is to capture and convey some of the Celtic mysticism and history. It also ties in with some of the locations used in the fantastic HBO series Game of Thrones. Locations such as Ballintoy, The Dark Hedges and Inch Abbey have all featured prominently in the show. My aim is to continue to explore some of the lesser known spots and document a visual journey of Ancient Ireland over the coming year or so. I have at least one exhibition organised for next year...
