Prescott, AZ - The local artists of the Village Gallery at 500 Hwy 179 in the Village of Oak Creek are accustomed to treating First Friday Art Walk attendees to gourmet snacks, wine, lively conversation and, of course more than 40 unique art displays. Harry Houdini (born Erik Weisz in Budapest, later Ehrich Weiss or Harry Weiss; March 24, 1874 – October 31, 1926) was a Hungarian-American illusionist and stunt performer, noted for his sensational escape acts. He first attracted notice as "Harry Handcuff Houdini" on a tour of Europe, where he challenged police forces to keep him locked up. Soon he extended his repertoire to include chains, ropes slung from skyscrapers, straitjackets under water, and having to hold his breath inside a sealed milk can. In 1904, the London Daily Mirror newspaper challenged Houdini to escape from special handcuffs that it claimed had taken Nathaniel Hart, a locksmith from Birmingham, five years to make. North Platte, NE - The Art and Gift Gallery is announcing a four-session photography class to begin Monday evening, October 6th. The course topics will emphasize the fundamentals of creative photographic composition, but will also include techniques on proper camera handling. Primary emphasis will be given to understanding the essentials of the Elements of Design, Composition, and Lighting. Knowledge of these concepts will allow the photographer to not only take better quality photographs, but to also add creativity to their work.
The course will be conducted by Ron Boerner, with the first session to be from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 6th. The class will continue each Monday evening through October 27th with the exception of the second session which will be held on Tuesday evening, Oct. 14th instead of Monday Oct. 13th. North Platte, NE - Area photographers are invited to bring in their best photos for this year’s competitive Fall Photography Show to be held in October at the Art and Gift Gallery in downtown North Platte.
The show has five competitive categories: Nature, People, Landscape, Digital Effects, and Open. Entry fees are $5.00 per each photo submitted, and all photos must be framed and ready to hang using screw eyes and picture wire, no sawtooth hangers, please. Photos entered in any previous show at the Art Gallery are not eligible for this show.
Entries will be accepted during regular gallery hours of 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. from Wednesday, Oct. 1st through Saturday, Oct. 4th, and Tuesday, Oct. 7th.
Ribbons will be awarded in each category. In addition, one photo will be selected from among all entries to be awarded a Best of Show ribbon which will also earn a $25 cash award.
