Wow Phil that is a great thought, I actually painted this in Minnesota and it is off the Yellow Medicine River. I love what you wrote better, what a great story, I might just use it :) (teasing) thank you very much for commenting on my work! Cheers J

Very nice painting - I am reading post regarding a focal point – let me point out what I see and understand within this wonderful painting that caught my eye. Whether you agree or disagree here is my “two cents”. The prominent focal point may not be realized at first, or is actually hidden in the subject matter. The title being “Yellow Medicine River” is appropriate. What I see and will reveal is this interesting fact; the focal point is the brighter image of a tree, herein is the revelation! What appears to be a Sycamore Tree – very common along wetlands and streams but in the southwest it is a Subgenus Platanus better known as the Arizona Sycamore. The Sycamore Tree is revered by Native American Tribes as having a spiritual persona’ – not to be disturbed or in other words “messed with”. I would venture to say the river was appropriately named “Yellow Medicine River”.
