Description
Evening shadows on the gypsum sand dunes at the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico are naturally blue - but not this blue. I deepened the tones of the softly flowing shapes of the wind swept dunes so they would contrast boldly with the complementary orange of the sunset sky. Five visitors on a distant ridge enjoy the night with me and give a sense of scale to the composition. Despite being quite realistic - except for the colors - the scene has a surreal, almost abstract feel.

Lovely colour combination and composition Nikolyn. An alien landscape which really works well with the small figures on the horizon making a big impact, Wendy

Wow, pushing the color of the blue of the sans, almost makes they look like they are standing on the ocean and that amazing orange sky above, creates a fantastic abstract image... the silhouetted people are the icing on the cake! Your portfolios are such a joy to look through, I always find something I love!

extraordinary image! not just the concept and the colors but the poses of silhouetted people are interesting, reminding me of figures in "primitive" art telling an epic tale. v/f

A perfect dream, especially with the luminous light suggested by the shading of the hills.
