Description
The early morning shadows that fall across this courtyard as it is seen through the archway are invitingly cool. A welcome respite from the fierce desert sun. A funeral service for a veteran was taking place as I was painting this scene. Tourists continued to come and go though they were not permitted in the sanctuary. San Xavier is the oldest operating mission in the country.
