Description
Delicate dots, fine lines, patterns, lot of patience and spinebreaking long painting hours have made this painting one of my most favourite artwork. This huge warli painting is a complete story. The story of monsoon! A WELCOME SONG sung by nature and its elements when they feel the first drop of rain! The peacock is dancing with the arrival of monsoon. Joining in his celebration are the birds, trees, insects and underground world of reptiles too. Though monochromatic, the white fine lines along with a dark background are highlighting the pattern of feathers, clouds, leaves, grass, stones.
India is an agricultural country. The rain is a good sign and always brings joy and hope along with it.
As Warli people respect the nature a lot, a warli painting always depicts natural elements like trees, animals and surroundings. Use of geometric shapes like triangle, circle, lines is the characteristic feature of Warli paintings.
Due to continuously increasing international appeal Warli paintings on paper and canvas have become popular amongst the art lovers. Also the original technique of using rice flour paste on cowdung and red ochre surface has been replaced by acrylic, poster, oil colors on canvas, paper, cloth, murals. Contemporary touch to such artwork is becoming popular now in India and other countries also.
Traditionally painted on walls on cowdung and red mud background with rice flour paste, Warli paintings are expressions of many motifs, daily and social events of this largest tribe in Maharashtra state of India residing 150 kms from Mumbai.
