Weimar's marketplace is full of color, life and beautiful buildings. On its east side are the Stadthaus (Town House) and the Cranachhaus.
Town House (left): The original building in early Renaissance style was destryod in WWII. Rebuilt 1968-1971, the historic facade has been restored.
Cranach Haus (right)- early Renaissance style: Here Lucas Cranach the Elder had his "Painter Room" and worked on the famous three-wing altarpiece for the parish church - the work which his younger brother completed. The eye-catching building with columns, arched niches and shell ornaments was heavily damaged during the war and later restored. Today it is a cabaret theater.
