Description
I only had a short time to wander around the inside of St Albans Abbey. It's technically an Anglican Cathedral, but everyone locally refers to the quite old church as "The Abbey" so when in Rome!
And it's funny Rome should be mentioned as the roots of this old church reach back to Roman times when Saint Alban became the first British Christian to be martyred here. The town was once a place of pilgrimage to see the shrine that was here.
Today the old church is a mixture of an old Norman church and a Gothic Revival one. I'm guessing this little side chapel fits the latter description but H honestly photographed it in passing so don't know any details.
All I knew as I stopped there was that was an incredibly beautiful glow from the afternoon son through the old stained glass windows. Don't you agree? I loved how it highlighted the ceiling and the whole of the little chapel and then faded into darkness beyond. Almost a go-into-the-light moment.
