Description
Winter is not the high season in Newport, RI, as evidenced by these empty chairs. But it provided a wonderful opportunity to explore the city in a very relaxed way. We imagined the same walk on the dock in the summer would find us shoulder to shoulder with many more people and not an empty chair to be found. We were able to linger awhile and appreciate the lovely scene, and some sweets from a local shop. Newport is a city on Aquidneck Island in Newport County, Rhode Island, United States. It is located 23 miles (37 km) south of Providence, and 61 miles (98 km) south of Boston. It is well known as a New England summer resort and for the famous Newport Mansions. Newport is also the home of Salve Regina University and Naval Station Newport which houses the United States Naval War College, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, and a major United States Navy training center.
