While visiting Montauk in February 2013 I took a ride to the Montauk Lighthouse on a cold windy day in the winter to get some different photos of the ocean and surrounding areas. Set my camera as I was walking up to this historical lighthouse on a different mode then black and white and came up with this vintage looking version of the Montauk Lighthouse which could have been taken when it was first built. The Montauk Lighthouse was commissioned to be built by President George Washington as a safe notification for boats sailing in storms and at night into the east coast and New York harbors. It has one hundred and seven steps in the Montauk Lighthouse from the main floor to the top of the Lighthouse where the Light is located. Inside the first building shown in this photo is the former home of the men who worked the lighthouse for years, isolated from a great part of the area around them, with East Hampton being the closest area to them. The building now stands as a great museum to all of the people who have worked in the Lighthouse and the history of the incidents that went on around the Montauk Lighthouse with the Indians and ship wrecks. It is a great historical place to visit whether in the cold of winter or the summer. You will find great sunsets and sunrises along with remarkable views from a top of the Lighthouse looking out over the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding beaches and bluffs that have eroded over years due to hurricanes and noreasters.
