Description
This is like an engraved flower at the base on the rind or hard skin of the Mangosteen. Apparently the number of petals denotes the number of segmented portions of the fruit inside.
The Mangosteen is well known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits and many others.
The purple mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), known simply as mangosteen, is a tropical evergreen tree. The fruit of the mangosteen is sweet and tangy, juicy, and somewhat fibrous, with an inedible, deep reddish-purple colored rind when ripe.
Mangosteen is native to South East Asia and is known as the Queen of Tropical Fruits.
The mangosteen fruit is round with a crown and stem attached. It ranges from 4 cm to 8 cm in diameter and weighs between 50 grams and 150 grams. The thick, leathery skin is deep purple when ripe and the flesh is pearly white and divided into five to seven segments. The fruit is harvested ripe, ready to eat.

Thanks Therese for your comment and v/f. It is the first time I have bought one of these, and the skin is rather hard..I guess it is a bit like dried leather!

This looks like it's made of wood or leather, Kaye - amazing that it's from a fruit! Great image! v/f

Thank you for your kind words, Xueling. I was amazed to learn about the petals on the flower showing how many segments of fruit are inside!
