A pocket watch is made specifically to be carried in a pocket instead of being attached to a strap so you can wear it on your wrist as a wristwatch. Pocket watches were the most common watches in the 16th century until wristwatches became popular after World War I when a transitional design called trench watches were used by the military. The name wristlet was used to describe this timepiece until the early 1930's when the more modern name wristwatch replaced the term. Pocket watches are still manufactured and well loved today. There is a certain charm that I believe has a lot to do with this timepiece's longevity. You hear of people handing pocket watches down from one family member to the next..This has a way of connecting us even when we are many miles apart..
