Description
Time in Layers
The soil layers of the Painted Hills in Central Oregon were formed by different geological eras over millions of years when the area was an ancient flood plain, and various mineral deposits include: lignite, mudstone, siltstone, shale and laterite. The soil is inhospitable to any plant life and very fragile, so visitors are warned not to walk on it or else erosion will occur in those places. The appearance, up close, has a parched , cracked surface. Also in this area are fossil remains of early horses, camels and rhinoceroses. This is one of three units of the John Day Fossil National Monument area.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
