Tiger Lily is a recent addition to my Flower Series.Symbolizing energy,warm,and enthusiasm this breathtaking orange flower with it's vibrant color conveys a satisfaction,confidence, and love of life.Tiger lilies like other lilies symbolically reflect feminine qualities of mercy,kindness,compassion and unconditional love. Lilies are associated with the planet Venus, the water element and the goddesses Venus, Juno, Mpethys and Kwan Y'in. Representing the more powerful aspects of femininity the tiger lily symbolizes female courage. It is a good flower for a career woman to carry in her bouquet down the aisle, and its bold orange symbolizes personal wealth and career success.The fact that the tiger lily is bright orange also speaks of joy, productivity and pride.Tiger lilies are very easy to grow, and once you cut off one blossom another one quickly replaces it. There are some varieties of tiger lily that will bloom straight from late June through to the first frost. This lily is also a very aggressive flower that can grow into big bushes that can quickly overtake the entire garden if you don't prune often.
The tiger lily is thought of as a fertility flower because the throat is usually covered with a thick layer of pollen ready to feed and nurture. In Asia, particularly Japan, the Tiger Lily is prized as a source of food. While roots and shoots are edible, they are often bitter. The flower buds, when baked are said to taste very much like potatoes.
