Description
The 33 year-old Watering Hole, the only bar on the beach in the UK, took a pounding but survived the great storm of January 2014. The forces of nature built a 15 ft fortified wall of sand around Perranporth's famous landmark.
On the 3rd January the storm hit Perran Sands with waves racing up the beach and into the town, flooding properties and shocking the residents of this usually peaceful seaside location.
The following days brought strong tidal surges which crashed against the newly formed sand bank, slowly eroding it and putting the Watering Hole in danger of collapsing into the sea.
When this photograph was taken a few weeks later Mother Nature was slowly restoring the beach to a gently sloping hill of sand with each tide, levelling the beach and lessening the threat to this wonderful building.
Sadly Perranporth village was hit by another storm yesterday, 1st February, and once again the properties were flooded.
