Description
The Tabernacle. See-through artwork of the Tabernacle, the portable temple used by the Israelites led by Moses journeying from Egypt to the Promised Land (around the 15th century BC). The Tabernacle itself consisted of an inner shrine (the Holy of Holies) and an outer chamber (Holy Place). The inner shrine housed the Ark of the Covenant. The outer chamber housed a golden lampstand (menorah), a table for showbread, and an altar of incense (all shown here). The Ark of the Covenant contained the Ten Commandments. On the lid are carvings of the cherubim (winged figures), with winged lions (another form of cherubim) on the curtains.
