In the main square of Venice, in the Piazza San Marco, there is a world famous restaurant called the Caffe Florian. It is named after Floriano Francesconi.
Casonova frequented here (apparently because it was the only caffe to serve women at that time). The list of other famous persons who enjoyed their visits here is extensive; it includes such personalities as: Proust, Byron, Wagner, Goethe, Dickens, Rousseau, Rubinstein, Stravinsky, Modigliani, Balzac, and - more recently, during the filming of "The Tourist" - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
While there is food here, that is not the main reason one comes here: it is for the Atmosphere .. and for the coffee - The Caffe Florian is the oldest coffee house in Italy - and the luxurious atmosphere of 'old' Venice, for the rituals and traditions it started with in 1720 remain today: the plush interior, jacketed waiters, service on silver trays, an orchestra that plays to a setting sun.
If you are lucky to find an outdoor seat at Florian's in the summertime, prepare to be entertained by their musicians.
Working from two images, I copied the music I had captured of one of the pieces that was being played, and transposed it onto another photo of a musician playing, to create one combined image from Florian's, in the Square of Happy Memories (San Marco Square, Venice).

Connie Handscomb replied:
Bob, Venice is beautiful although the summertime is very crowded with tourists! We spoil ourselves when we travel {ok, well yes, that's because of me; I'm not a backpacker} & had a beautiful hotel next to San Marcos Square. Definitely worth a visit, & Florian's, too ... for happy memories :) {thank you for your kind words; yes, I did think a lot about how I would present this, & your appreciation made it all worthwhile} Cheers!

Connie, every so often, one of us captures a slice of life and layers it with another so neatly that it resonates with many others. You've done that here (judging by the many who've already commented), by superimposing Jacques Larue's "Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White" over the bass player's white shirt at Piazza an Marco's Caffe Florian--so movingly (and lastingly) that it raises the bar for all of us. A splendid accomplishment!
Connie Handscomb replied:
Your words ... only found by me now ... have raised my spirits enormously, Joseph {if not the bar , lol.. } ; thank you so very much for your thoughtful comment & kind support :))
