It is not often that I find myself with good company on hikes; the life of a wannabe photographer is up extremely early or out extremely late, often getting excited about conditions that others seem to cringe about, and for me, doing a lot of traversing work followed by a lot of "hurry up and wait." I've been lucky enough to meet some great photographers the past couple of years who have shared some great memories with me at different locations (not to mention taught me a good bit), none more so than Dave Allen. However, on this particular day I was lucky enough to have my father and his young German Shepherd make the hike out to Grassy Ridge with me. While it was not my father's first time to Grassy Ridge, it was his first attempt during the full Catawba bloom and the show nature put on between the fog, light, and natural conditions was fantastic--and it was really cool to share it with him.

I appreciate that, Chris! This particular scene was pretty magical to watch, let alone photograph. It was completely socked in with fog, then the winds seemed to magically clear everything and push it down and over the landscape like a hand! Was really neat to see!

For sure, Michael! Thank you, Cheryl! It was a rare opportunity for me where I was actually with my father and his young German Shepherd; we were the only two people up on the trail that morning and the show that nature put on was absolutely incredible! It is a great memory for me every time I see the image!

Absolutely stunning! The colors are brilliantly beautiful and the rolling clouds/fog are icing on the cake. :)

Killer shot there Mark. That is what it is all about, being able to capture the moment. Awesome shot!

Great capture! It would have been great with out the clouds/fog rolling in, but that made it extra amazing!

Thanks, Jay! I had the opportunity to hike up and see this with my father and his pup--good morning all around.
