Description
Watercolour of a young woman in an interior working at her sewing machine. This piece was inspired by memories of my mother who made a lot of our clothes. She made matching printed cotton summer dresses for my sister and I on a Singer sewing machine. They were beautifully crafted clothing. My mother had a real talent , she had learned her craft from her Aunt who was a seamstress and had brought her up after both her parents( my grandparents ) had passed away.
I remember the distant soothing sounds at night -the soft purr of the machine stopping and starting as we fell asleep . I later learned to sew and make my own clothes on that reliable old sewing machine.
In this watercolour painting the large bay window fills the room with light, and creates a glow around the woman lost in her task.

Thank you for the wonderful memories of my own mother! Trudi, this is my exact story, except the part about learning to make your own clothes ... I never could learn how to do it. Just like I've never learned how to do watercolor, you do such a beautiful job of it. Wonderful painting I voted! F/L
