Description

The woman at the well. Jesus and his disciples were travelling throughout the holy land and crossed through Samaria to get to their destination. This was not normally done as the Jews and the Samarians did not get along. On their journey they came across a well. Jesus sent the rest of his followers into the town to buy food and he stopped at the well. There was a Samaritan woman there drawing water. They started talking and, in fact, it is reported that this was the longest conversation Jesus had with anyone. It became clear to the woman during their conversation that Jesus was who he said he was and she became a convert and spread his word to her people. When the disciples returned to the well they were shocked to see Jesus speaking with a woman. This was more upsetting to them than the fact that she was a Samaritan.
