Description
The Earth's seasons. This diagram shows the axial tilt of the Earth causing the seasons as the Earth orbits the Sun (centre). The four positions shown correspond to the solstices and equinoxes, and allegorical figures represent the seasons of the Northern Hemisphere. From top centre, moving anti-clockwise, with the Spring Equinox (23 March), the Summer Solstice (21 June), the Autumn Equinox (23 September), and the Winter Solstice (21 December). On the solstice diagrams, the durations of the longest days and nights are shown. The four corners contain text describing the size of the Earth and the Earth's orbital mechanics.
