Description
One of those little images that even at first glance brings thoughts of family and apple pie and welcoming arms and smiles. A vision of the universal idea of an American home, dressed up for the autumn holidays.
This little green building can be found at one of my favorite places to shoot, Old Bedford Village in Bedford, PA. It was actually a two-room doctor's office, not a home, and was first constructed for a Dr. Moore of Bloody Run (now Everett) in 1850. It was in use until 1931. The last doctor to use it was Dr. John Nycum. An early doctor would use his office primarily for mixing medicines and storing supplies. Doctors usually visited their patients at home, sometimes not returning to their offices for weeks.
As I've mentioned in previous posts, this building is not a recreation, and was moved to the Old Bedford site as part of their "living history museum." You can see more information here: http://www.oldbedfordvillage.com My thanks to the site for the above information about the little office.
This image is based on a photograph I took with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikkor lens in October of 2009. I recently doctored it up a bit in Photoshop CS6 then moved it into Corel Painter 2015 for a complete digital hand-painting with the Wacom tablet for a more artistic and painterly look.
