The saying 'The devil is beating his wife' is mostly prominent in the southern part of the United States. That saying applies usually during sunshowers. It is believed that the devil is angry that God created a beautiful day hence the beating of the devil's wife starts the rain.
A sunshower or sun shower is a meteorological phenomenon in which rain falls while the sun is shining. These conditions often lead to the appearance of a rainbow, if the sun is at a low enough angle. Although used in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Britain, the term "sunshower" is rarely found in dictionaries.

Brian, this is a beautiful photo! In the real world, I love rain but find sunshowers really uncomfortable. I just can't wrap my mind around the concept -- kind of like deliberately wearing one black shoe and one brown shoe! ;-)
