Description
It was mostly a rainy day. As I took care of various errands, I found various places to take a break. I explored some of my familiar haunts out at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. I hiked through the woods. The mosquitoes and no-see-ums attacked me with a vengence. I couldn't outrun them, of course. Thunder rumbled. The sky let loose. As long as I was beneath the trees, it wasn't too bad. The bugs just made it miserable, though. Perhaps the rain made them hungrier? I had to get back to my van. Of course, the rain stopped as soon as I was back in my van.
I was in the mood to remain outdoors and see what I could find. I explored various paths, roads, and wild places. It seemed that each time I got out to hike a bit, the rain came! At one point, the sun shone through the parting clouds. I found a field of sunflowers. I slogged through the mud to get some photos. This is one of them. I liked the way that the sunflower glowed against the cloudy sky. Of course, the sunshine was brief. It began to rain again, and I had to leave.

Great capture, AnnaJo! I was able to grow some sunflowers in my backyard for the first time this year. Love the contrast of the stormy sky and backlit flower. v/f

Thank you, Angela. I kinda feel like this is an homage to Vincent. He and I were born on the same day a hundred years apart.

A wonderful hot! I kind of get the feeling that the sunflower has something to tell us. f/v
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thank you very much, Daniel. I know what you mean. This one flower seemed to be standing much taller than all the others.
