Description
The Canadian Rocky Mountains surround Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, and offer many beautiful views if one keeps watching for the interplay of sunlight, shadow and clouds. On our visit we were blessed with a rapidly changing combination of clouds and high-altitude winds, which in this case gave me an image where the sun was spotlighting a huge outcropping of rock, yet left the background similar peaks in shadow with rain clouds hovering over the crest. And of course the pristine heavy forest which went down to the edge of the lake itself.
Jasper National Park is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, spanning 10,878 km2 (4,200 sq mi). It is located in the province of Alberta, north of Banff National Park and west of the City of Edmonton. The park includes the glaciers of the Columbia Icefield, hot springs, lakes, waterfalls and mountains. Wildlife in the park includes elk, caribou, moose, mule deer, white-tailed deer, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, grizzly bears, black bears, coyotes, beavers, Rocky Mountain pikas, hoary marmots, grey wolves, mountain lions, and wolverines.
This park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, together with the other national and provincial parks that form the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, for the mountain landscapes containing mountain peaks, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, canyons, and limestone caves as well as fossils found here.
Major river systems originating in the park include the North Saskatchewan River (part of the Hudson Bay basin), and the Athabasca and Smoky rivers (part of the Arctic Ocean basin).

In the art world, I was initially trained as a Commercial Artist and Illustrator and eventually explored many other methods of art/style as well as other mediums. I work in pencil, ink, acrylics, watercolor and oil pastels. I have also enjoyed mosaic design and application, floor murals, wall murals, collapsible screens, floor cloths, graphic design. Explored sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, hand painted furniture, refinishing old frames with gold leaf or faux finishes, interior design and interior decorating.

With the advent of digital cameras I came to really enjoy photography both as an artistic expression as well as a foundation for capturing interesting and exciting compositions to be painted later.

My recent creative endeavour was graduating from a certified Cosmetology Program (hairstylist and esthetics) in March 2009.
