Description
On an early morning drive I caught the sun as it just started to hit the mountains over looking St. Mary River.
The river rises as a stream on Gunsight Mountain in Glacier National Park and flows into Gunsight Lake, then flows into Saint Mary Lake, exits the park and flows on into Lower St. Mary Lake in the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. From the reservation, the St. Mary River flows into Alberta and into the St. Mary Reservoir. It flows into the Oldman River which eventually reaches the Saskatchewan River.
It passes near the town of Cardston, Alberta, and the city of Lethbridge, Alberta.
The Saint Mary River is a cross-border tributary of the Oldman River, itself a tributary of the South Saskatchewan River. The Saint Mary together with the Belly River and Waterton River drains a small portion of Montana, in the United States, to the Hudson Bay watershed in Canada.

Great capture of sunlight playing over the red, red rocks, casting the mountains into a fiery glow.

Love the warmth of the sun on the mountain and yet the early morning fog adds so much. There is just something good about being a morning person. SE fav/g/t

Really nice photo, Robert! I spent two summers working at St Mary Lodge while in college "many" years ago, and would wake to this view of Single Shot Mountain. A group of us students hiked one day to the top of the lower ridge to the right of the mountain just to see what was there... and it was a marvelous hike :) Thanks for the memories!! :) F/V
