Description
In any city that I spend even a few days, there's always a building or place to which I find myself drawn. In Dublin, there's no question that I haunted O'Connell Street a lot, and in particular, I was drawn to the main post office.
It was only after I got home that I read up on the history of this building. It was opened in 1818, and was the last of grand Georgian government buildings constructed in Ireland. On one of Dublin's main streets on the North side, it has seen a lot of history, including bombs exploding on the street outside during the fight for Irish independence. Today it is both Dublin's main post office as well as the headquarters for Ireland's postal service, An Post.
On this, my last day in Ireland, I was treated to something special, an incredibly sunny day which resulted in one of my favorite photos of this grand old Greek revival building. What an incredible treat in the midst of winter. Were it not for the coats on the pedestrians in this street scene, you'd almost think it was summer the light is so warm and golden!

I love the painterly light in this photo and the phenomenal depth of field. Just a pleasure to look at.

Much appreciated Diane! Despite it being winter, I still have warm thoughts of Dublin when I look back at this one. Glad to know it translates to others who weren't standing there when I was. :-)
