Description
This hand drawn 18th century map of the Straits of Bahama along the north shore of Cuba is the perfect addition to your home or office art collection.
The map's legend reads:
"An accurate draft of the old straits of Bahama, taken from an actual survey and remarks of Mr. Robert Bishop in 1762. And is now carefully drawn and dedicated to the purchaser Captain __________ by his most obliged Friend &c Richard Taylor. Philada [Philadelphia]. 30th Novr [November] 1781."
Bearing the marks of age and use the map details the Cuban coast from Havana to Cape Maize. Robert Bishop, a British hydrographer, produced a series of maps based upon his notes while serving aboard the HMS Alarm.
Please note, while this vintage map has been lightly retouched, it bears the marks of 230+ years of use, adding to the vintage feel of the map.
If ordering a canvas print, archival matte or picture rag is recommended. Archival matte paper offers a smooth look; picture rag paper offers a bit of texture to pull out the vintage feel of this wonderful map. Acrylic and metal prints merge the vintage feel of the map with a contemporary look. A variety of custom mat and frame options are available to fit most any decorating needs.
