Description
These picturesque houses are several of the eight "Stockton Row Cottages" in Cape May, New Jersey, that were built in 1870-71. They were designed by architect Stephen Decatur Button who also designed about 40 other beautiful buildings in Cape May. Although actually on Gurney Street, these cottages were located in the massive shadow of the former Stockton Hotel and thus became the Stockton Row Cottages. Although these cottages were almost destroyed by a devastating fire in 1878 that burned down a 30-block section of the town, they are now beautifully preserved and have national historic landmark designation.
