After vacationing in beautiful St. Maarten in July, I learned that the Royal Poinciana tree, also known as the Flamboyant Tree, the Flame Tree or the July Tree (the month when its flowers bloom at their colorful peak) is popularly considered as the "National Tree" on both the Dutch and the French sides of the island of St. Martin. It was a treat to visit the island at the time when they were at their peak. The beautiful orange blooms were simply gorgeous against the blue of the sea ... an artist's delight.
