Description
SOUTH PASS CITY CABIN by PRISCILLA BURGERS
A historic stop about ten miles north of the Oregon Trail and a once bustling gold mining camp, South Pass City is one of the best known ghost towns in Wyoming, as well as one of the most authentic old settlements in the American West. Built in 1867, South Pass City had as many as 3000 residents. Half a dozen people currently reside full time in the town.
Civil War veteran, William Riniker, and his son, Fred, lived in this cabin. One of Riniker's prospecting interests was a claim west of town. The Rinikers were probably typical of a restless male mining population who criss-crossed the West chasing the promise of gold.
This digital painting is my rendition based on my photograph of the cabin interior.
