Description
Arenal volcano in Costa Rica was dormant for hundreds of years and exhibited a single crater at its summit, with minor fumaroles activity, covered by dense vegetation landscape.
In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly, destroying the small town of Tabacon.
Due to the eruption three more craters were created on the western flanks but only one of them still exists today.
Since October 2010, Arenal’s volcanic activity appears to be decreasing and explosions have become rare, with no explosions reported between December 2010 and October 2012.
But I was in the nearby town of La Fortuna, and what a site it must have been when she blew knowing that she sits on the huge "ring of fire".
Arenal is the youngest and most active of all the mountains in Costa Rica.
Scientists have been able to date its activity back to more than 7000 years ago which is nothing in human years.
The area remained largely unexplored until 1937, when a documented expedition took place to reach the summit.
It has been considered eruptive since 1968.
Like anything else my friends, Arenal is unpredictable to say the least and this volcano is quite massive in size and that does NOT happen overnight.
This should prove to be a very pleasing photo to the eye, but when she blows again, as they predict, I wish to be very far away.

Lenticular clouds circling the great volcano - awesome. Accustomed to seeing our snow-covered volcanoes here is Washington State, it is so unique to see green slopes.

Thank you Faith, your views & comments are highly valued, and those are clouds and smoke coming from the volcano since it's live and setting directly atop the famous ring of fire. She could possibly blow at any minute...
