limited visibility
optimists say the sky's the limit
i never bought that
once upon a time
i was convinced
i could break through that blueness
and keep on rocketing to infinity
life has disabused me of that notion
walls have closed in
possibility now has
a very low ceiling
in fact the sky is almost totally obscured
from view
still i sit
hemmed in as i am
and gaze out at the few stars
i can yet glimpse
through these skylights
dim and dusty as they are
i know life is raging out there
somewhere
people laugh and dance
drink wine
make love
i look up and remember these things
