Description
Light micrograph of Bowen's disease, a skin cancer that does not spread, also known as squamous cell carcinoma in situ. The wavy red layer along the top is the normal skin while the red tissue below is cancer. Note the tendency of the tissue to swirl in circular patterns. This is known as "keratin pearls," a common characteristic of squamous cell carcinomas. Magnification 70x when printed at 10 cm.
