Description
Seattle skyline on a beautiful sunny day with various shades of clouds included.Puget Sound is a gorgeous place. I took this picture while on my sailboat. I was sailing into a local marina. I stopped to have lunch in the middle of Puget Sound. It was nice to see sunshine, and the dark cloud passing over me to the left, and a nice white sunny coud heading on top me. There is no better place to be in the summer, than in the Pacific Northwest. I'm a bit jaded to this..of course! Another way to see the Seattle skyline is by either taking the Bainbridge Island- Winslow Ferry to Seattle or you can also see a slighty different view if you were to take the Bremerton- Seattle ferry.. "Have lunch overseas" as the Washington State Ferry used to boast! But none the less, I was in a small sailboat! The Seattle skyline has changed quite a bit over the years as you might have seen or read about! But his view you don't see the tallest buildins that are there now. There are some other facts about Seattle you might want to know...Here goes..The tallest building in the U.S. city of Seattle, Washington is the 76-story Columbia Center, which rises 937 feet and was completed in 1985. It is currently the 20th-tallest building in the United States, and the tallest building in the state of Washington. The second-tallest skyscraper in the city and the state is the 1201 Third Avenue, which rises 772 feet .The twenty tallest buildings in Washington are located in Seattle. The history of skyscrapers in Seattle began with the 1904 completion of the Alaska Building, which is often regarded as the first steel-framed skyscraper in the city, it rises 14 floors and 203 feet in height. Seattle went through a large construction boom in the 1970s and 1980s, resulting in the construction of 15 buildings of at least 400 feet in height, including Columbia Center and the 1201 Third Avenue. Seattle entered into another high-rise construction boom in 2000, and has since seen the completion of three buildings that stand at least 500 feet . Today, Seattle boasts 13 completed skyscrapers[A] that rise at least 500 feet in height. Seattle's skyline is ranked first in the Northwestern United States, third on the West Coast (after Los Angeles and San Francisco) and eleventh in the United States. As of May 2008, there are 204 completed high-rises in the city, and 63 high-rise buildings under construction, approved for construction, and proposed for construction including 24 buildings over 400 feet.
