This is one of the paths on the Runnymede Conversation Area near St. Cloud, Florida. This area was peppered with beautiful hammocks in the past, but growth has caused many of these wetland dependent areas to disappear. I love to walk here, and to take the grandkids to see the beautiful, but a bit scary trees. You can find all kinds of birds, snakes, and other critters here. I always feel better after one of these walks. These hanging branches are the origin of the common term "hammock". Native Americans used cloths suspended from these branches to sleep safe from the many critters below.
