Description
The elk have moved down into the North Fork Valley along the river between Hotchkiss and Paonia, Colorado to forage for food. The snow in the mountains has reached a depth which makes it difficult for these herds to graze. However, this is their winter range as well as winter pasture for the domestic cattle raised year round in the area causing some problems for the farmers and ranchers. But, it is such a pleasure to see these magnificent animals that it isnt unusual to see vehicles loaded with people parked along the roads watching and photographing them. There are three spike bulls and two mature ones with this group. The largest bull has six points on his right side; but, has broken off the left antler so that it only has four.

Really beautiful, Dale. I have seen elk only a few times here in WA. Amazing animals.
Dale Jackson replied:
Yes, they are stunning and the big bulls are massive. Thank you for the compliment!
