Description
This image of a small tributary waterfall to Rock Run, located in the Loyalsock State Forest, in Lycoming County, PA was captured on May 26, 2013. There are 35 different Rock Runs in Pennsylvania, but the Rock Run located in the Loyalsock State Forest is by far the most beautiful and pristine of them all, and is arguably quoted by many published magazine articles and other literature as being the prettiest stream in Pennsylvania. A quote from Backpacker magazine reads "This Rock Run north of Williamsport in Loyalsock State Forest has some of the best swimming holes in the entire United States." Rock Run is also a very popular trout fishing stream and is legally designated as an Exceptional Value stream. This fragile stream is environmentally protected, although; it is currently being threatened by surface mining operations from a gas drilling company that has acquired the mineral drilling rights to much of the surrounding area.
The crystal clear water of Rock Run is free from sediment and cuts through solid bedrock along a 7 mile gorge in the Loyalsock State Forest to its confluence with Lycoming Creek, at the Southern end of the small, old logging town of Ralston, in Lycoming County, PA. Along its course, it has three large waterfalls known as the Rock Run Cataracts, all with large, deep pools used as swimming holes for hundreds of weekend warriors throughout the summer months. It also has a multitude of other smaller cataracts, chutes, slides, cascades and potholes throughout much of its length with many tributary streams entering into it. Each tributary stream to Rock Run also has its own diversity of gorgeous waterfalls and cascades. Some of the notable tributary streams include Miners Run, Hounds Run and Yellow Dog Run.
To Access Rock Run: From PA State Route 14, turn East onto Thompson Street in the town of Ralston. Drive East on Thompson Street and cross the bridge over Lycoming Creek. Shortly after crossing the bridge, Thompson Street becomes Rock Run Road. From the bridge, continue onto Thompson Street/Rock Run Road. Rock Run can be accessed by parking at any of the multiple parking areas along Rock Run Road and hiking a short distance to the waterway.

Very nice shot. Joel. The water looks incredibly soft and the greens are so rich in color. Well done.
